Raising Awareness and Celebrating Success with Reality Theatre Entertainment…
You may remember back in March we shared some behind the scene shots from a recording session with Reality Theatre.
Written by Juls Benson based upon research by Dr Rhiannon Lane into the diagnostic systems used within the mental health sector, this film portrays two young men, Jacob and Craig, both with mental health issues, as they enter the system…
As part of the Green Ribbon Arts Festival the aim of the project was to raise awareness regarding the fluid nature of psychiatric diagnosis, of the divisive potential of strictly categorical notions of diagnosis, and the difficulties for those experiencing diagnostic uncertainty. A further objective is to encourage service providers to consider using diagnostic categories more flexibly, and to rethink how services might become more inclusive towards those who fall in the gaps between diagnostic categories.
Content Warning: This films covers the themes of depression, anxiety, schizophrenia and drug use
This project was filmed and edited by our own Adam Prosser as his first full length feature. We caught up with him recently to see what this meant to him. This is what he said;
“In the System” was an amazing experience to be a part of. The cast and crew worked incredibly hard to showcase difficult topics on mental health and the effect on people from different communities. Seeing the passion from the entire team on set made my role as a filmmaker easy.
During the current pandemic, I’ve been very grateful to have the opportunity to be working through these hard times, and I am incredibly aware of how lucky I am. I’m excited to continue this important work with Reality Theatre in the coming months and possible future, whilst also learning more about my own skills in this aspect of my career.”
We are glad of been able to help you guys early on in this project and we hope you can show them some support.
